Law No. 202 of 2020 aims to issue a law regulating waste management, to eliminate the problem of garbage and waste, by establishing an apparatus concerned with organizing and managing waste, following up and monitoring all operations related to waste management at the central and local levels, in order to improve the service of environmentally safe management of waste of all kinds, and attract encouragement Investments in activities such as collecting, transporting, treating and disposing of waste.

It is not permissible to practice any of the activities of the integrated management of non-hazardous waste without obtaining a license issued by the Agency, and the executive regulations of this law specify the model for the license, its duration, the mechanisms for its issuance, the requirements, standards and specifications related to it, the controls for its renewal, and the cases of its suspension or cancellation.

The industrial zones, free zones, investment zones, and the Industrial Development Authority must develop an integrated plan for industrial waste management, provided that the plan is updated and reviewed periodically, and that plan is effective immediately upon its approval by the Agency, and the executive regulations of this law specify the data that must be available in this plan and the necessary time period. to review it.

The law requires the industrial waste generator to keep a record of these wastes called the “Industrial Waste Register.” The executive regulations of this law set a model for this record, which includes their classification, quantities, types, and how to deal with them. The industrial waste generator shall notify the Authority and the Agency of the register on a regular basis.

According to the law, the generator of industrial waste is obligated to completely separate it from other waste and hand it over to the authorized persons. The Public Authority for Industrial Development, in coordination with the agency, is responsible for supervising the organization, planning and monitoring of the integrated management of industrial waste.
