Engineer Mohamed Abdel Karim, Chairman of the Authority, stated that recent studies in Egypt have proven that the industrial developer is one of the successful experiences of the country’s private sector participation in the process of economic and industrial development, stressing that the Authority has an organizing and facilitating role and works with the developer to serve the investor, in order to reach a major goal. Abdel-Karim indicated that the authority believed in the capabilities of the private sector, so the authority was heading towards the use of the developer in managing and operating the existing industrial zones and complexes, due to the ability of the private sector to manage and market the industrial zones internally and externally.
Engineer Mohamed Abdel Karim referred to the questionnaire conducted by the Center for Economic and Strategic Studies as part of an in-depth study of the developer’s experience by surveying the opinions of a sample of factory owners within the developer’s areas, during which 83% of the investors confirmed that they prefer to repeat the experience and choose the industrial developer in the event of making an investment. For his part, Eng. Basil Shaira stressed the need to unify the dealing party on industrial lands through the authority and provide more contractual flexibility for the industrial developer in addition to standard contracts to enable him to attract major international companies, especially with the success of the developer in his dealings with project owners starting from land allocation, operation and maintenance, Praising the authority’s new approach towards using the industrial developer in the existing industrial zones to transfer the successful experience of the private industrial zones and apply them to the public industrial zones.
Eng. Karim Sami Saad expressed his appreciation for the new thinking of the Authority and its belief in the participation of the private sector and the capabilities of the industrial developer, especially at the present time, which is witnessing intense competition to attract investments coming from Europe, especially with the Ukrainian crisis, stressing that the Industrial Development Group (IDG) has fully recycled its profits. Mr. Riad Kiwan emphasized that Egypt is capable of attracting foreign investments with its stimulating laws for investment and the facilities provided by the government to the private sector and attracting capital in the face of challenges and regional competition, pointing to the CBC Group’s keenness to continue and expand its successful investments in Egypt.
At the end of the meeting, it was agreed to continue consultations through another meeting with the developer companies to prepare a complete vision and an integrated vision on the participation of the private sector in the development and management of industrial zones.
