Ahmed Amawi, Head of the Customs Authority, conducted a field tour of the customs sites at Port Said Port, inspected developments in the Customs Club facilities, met with the Governor of Port Said, as well as the Vice President of the Suez Canal Economic Zone, and held a dialogue seminar at the Chamber of Commerce headquarters.
Amawi, accompanied by Dr. Sami Ramadan and Ahmed Al-Asqalani, Vice Presidents of the Authority, inspected the progress of operations at the general warehouse yard, the passenger inspection building, and the logistics center. He met with a number of stakeholders and customs brokers and listened to the challenges they face. He emphasized the need to reduce customs clearance times by implementing advanced systems such as random inspection, risk management, automated classification and valuation, and employing artificial intelligence technologies to address any operational obstacles.
Amawi emphasized that we are working to improve customs performance to reduce clearance time and costs, as part of the government’s vision to facilitate trade.
He added that we are also working to facilitate customs procedures to reduce production and export burdens and create a business environment conducive to investment. He noted that we are keen to complete the automation of customs procedures and integrate databases with relevant authorities.
Amwi met with the Directors General of Customs, explaining that customs officers play an important and influential role in building bridges of trust and partnership with the business community and encouraging investment.
In his meeting with Major General Moheb Habashi, Governor of Port Said, he discussed ways to enhance joint cooperation between the two sides to serve the interests of the state and citizens. He also discussed mechanisms for developing and governing work procedures at customs ports in the governorate, in the presence of Mohamed Saada, President of the Chamber of Commerce, and Yasser El-Shamaa, Head of the Central Customs Administration in Port Said. The Governor emphasized the pivotal role Customs plays in supporting the national economy and facilitating trade flow.
The Governor highlighted the importance of continuous coordination with relevant authorities, most notably the Customs Authority, to secure ports and facilitate customs procedures, which supports import and export activity and contributes to strengthening Port Said’s position as a pivotal port and integrated logistics center.
The two sides reviewed ways to support the state’s efforts to develop the customs system and implement best practices in governance and oversight, ensuring the facilitation of trade flow, increased customs clearance rates, and the highest levels of transparency and discipline.
The head of the Customs Authority praised the fruitful cooperation with the Port Said Governorate and emphasized the continued efforts to develop customs operations through the implementation of modern digital systems and the training of personnel working at ports on the latest technical systems.
This meeting comes within the framework of the state’s comprehensive plan to upgrade customs ports and achieve integration between relevant entities to achieve sustainable economic development.
At the Port Said Chamber of Commerce headquarters, Amawi and his deputies met with members of the Port Said, Ismailia, and Damietta Chambers of Commerce. Amawi answered all questions raised, emphasizing the Minister of Finance’s interest in promoting community dialogue and continuous communication with the business community.
